One of my favorite jams, if not my very favorite jam, of the year is held at...an outdoor writer event. I get to attend many amazing music festivals with some great jams, but what might be my very favorite takes place at each year's at the SEOPA Conference, and it's called Pickin' and Grinnin'. SEOPA is a writer's organization that claims some of the best outdoor writers in the world, and some of those writers are also very good musicians. It has been a long time tradition of SEOPA to have a jam session following banquet at the annual conference.
One of the most fun parts about this jam is that everyone plays their own distinctive style. It is really fun as a musician to play along with country, rock, blues, and whatever else someone might play. Needles to say, I am the only dulcimer player in the group.
