Winfield Ramblings

I enjoyed attending The Walnut Valley Festival (best known simply as Winfield) just as much as I had anticipated! The concerts and competitions where amazing! More so this year than the past couple of years I really enjoyed watching several concerts and competitions. My favorite band that I got to see in concert at the festival was The Quebe Sisters and my favorite competition that I got to watch (other than the mountain dulcimer) was the flatpick guitar.

As for the dulcimer competition, even though I did not make the top five this year, it was still one of my favorite contests that I have ever taken part in. The field for the mountain dulcimer was the best it has been in years! There where 19 contestants including several past champions. These are just the ones I know off the top of my head: 4 first place winners, 4 second place winners and 2 third places winners, along with many other great players! I was so thrilled to see that the field was so great and that many past champions came and competed! I was also thrilled to see some great friends do well in the competition and specifically glad to see my friend Sarah Morgan take home 1st place. Congratulations Sarah you totally deserve the title!
