A couple of weeks ago I was at the
Museum of Appalachia, playing dulcimer at the Papaw's Dulcimer booth, where I got to do a couple really fun jams. After jamming awhile, I decided to take a break and go look in the Hall of Fame, which is part of the museum. So, of course, my dad and I pretty much went straight to the back of the building to the old instruments. It was fascinating. There were fiddles, banjos, guitars, and a lot of other stuff, but the best part was a whole corner of old dulcimers and instruments that the dulcimer evolved from. It was so amazing looking at all those old hand-made dulcimers.
If you have never been, this is an amazing place for dulcimer history.
